The project aims to transform Danielle Jacqui’s artwork by night. Inspired by fairy tales, the artist sees the piece as part of an ongoing narrative — and if there is one moment when stories come to life, it is at nightfall.

So how can we bring the tale to life after dark?

The central challenge of the lighting design is to find the most appropriate balance — one that respects, and perhaps even elevates, both the plastic and metaphorical qualities of the work. To illuminate it well, yet with the restraint of a storyteller, so as not to overstate an already rich narrative. To illuminate it with intention, nonetheless, in order to offer a vivid, even vibrant, nocturnal version of the piece.

The lighting devices are thus envisioned as being installed according to a principle of balance — between integration (into the metal structure) and distance (using vertical supports).

This project received the 2022 ACE Lighting Design Award in the ‘low budget’ category.»
