Lighting scheme for the Cointe Memorial (Liège)
Client : Régie des Bâtiments (Buildings Agency)
Years : 2009-2014
Design team : Radiance 35 ScPRL and Jacques FRYNS
Scope of appointment : Full appointment (design and implementation)
The lighting scheme for the Cointe Memorial plays on the contrast of light and dark, through the accentuation of vertical lines, both graphically (highlighting corners and projections) and by gradually increasing the intensity of light with height. The lighting scheme is conceived as an exact response to the lighting of the adjoining basilica.
The esplanade is purposely left in semi-darkness, although the contours (retaining wall) are picked out to delimit the space.
