Epalinges lighting plan (Switzerland)

The history and the urban development of the municipality have seen the emergence of three “hubs”, for each of which a specific “background” is defined. The lighting plan is further enhanced by adding illuminated landmarks, such as iconic buildings or the surroundings of schools.

The first hub is the centre, at Croix-Blanche, for which one of the objectives is to give it a genuine identity. This is achieved, in particular, by providing a “ceiling” of light and revitalising public gathering places through visual markers and the use of colour.

The second hub covers the residential neighbourhoods situated mainly to the North of the municipality. The common threads for this hub are to move towards more modern and standardised street lighting, with a hint of nostalgia for the past. The lighting is sober.

The final hub incorporates the Croisettes and Tuileries area, a genuine gateway into the municipality when coming from Lausanne (or the tram terminal). The lighting plan proposes a modern touch with the installation of illuminated signs along its main axis.

An exploratory walk was organised in February 2015.
